Umbrella
|
|

Personal Umbrella
The present day life-style involves greater participation in community
activities, meeting more people and more travel than in the past, which results
in greater exposure to risks of loss. In addition, the trend is higher jury
awards. One major lawsuit could wipe out your assets overnight. To
provide a safeguard for this situation, personal umbrella liability coverage is
available.
Eligibility
Personal umbrella liability coverage is available to applicants who maintain personal
liability insurance.
Austin Mutual must write the personal liability, supporting
property coverage and eligible automobile liability.
Coverage Description
Personal umbrella liability coverage is designed to provide worldwide catastrophe
protection in excess of primary personal liability and personal auto liability policies.
Personal umbrella liability coverage is subject to a minimum self-insured retention
of $250. It is written on an annual basis.
Underlying Insurance Requirement
Personal umbrella liability is excess insurance, it is mandatory that underlying
insurance be maintained during the entire term of the personal umbrella liability
policy for limits equal to or greater than those indicated under the minimum "Underlying
Insurance Requirements." Failure to do so makes the policyholder responsible
(self-insured) to the extent of the required underlying insurance.
Liability Coverage
We will pay for damages for which an insured becomes legally liable due
to bodily injury, personal injury or property damage. Damages include pre-judgement
interest awarded against the insured. Liability must arise from an occurrence
covered by the policy and coverage applies only to damages in excess of the minimum
retained limit.
|
Defense Coverage
The Company has the right to defend, investigate and settle any claim or
suit seeking damages covered by the policy. The Company may also choose to
participate with the insured or underlying insurer in the handling and defense of a
claim or suit that it believes may involve the umbrella policy. The Company's
duty to defend ends when it has paid claims in an amount equal to the limit of liability.
