Human Resources / Administration Department

Human Resources / Administration Department develops, administers, maintains, and manages formal systems within Austin Mutual to accomplish organizational goals.  Some of the areas Human REsources serves are: internal consultants and strategic partners in the area of equal employment opportunity compliance, recruitment an selection; training and development, compensation and benefits; employee and labor management relations; health and safety.  The Administration area provides service in the areas of receptionist, mail room , printing, word processing, and imaging.

Underwriting

You will enjoy an Underwriting career with Ausitn Mutual second to none.  We provide the tools our underwriters require to analyze and interpret coverage.  Our underwriters work in a team environment and share responsibility for the profitability and growth of their designated territory.  It is our mission to write quality business through the development of agency relationships and to provide our customers outstanding service.  Our product offerings range from Personal Lines including Homeowners, Auto, Dwelling Property and Personal Umbrella to Commercial Lines which include Businessowners and Commercial Auto.

Claims

The Claim Department at Austin Mutual supervises and services claims submitted by or presented against our policyholders.  Between the hours of 7:00am to 6:00pm CST, the Claims Customer Service hunt group handles general phone inquiries along with accepting First notices of Losses.  The Fast Track Examiners in the Claims Customer Service group are able to service and investigate a wide variety of the submitted customer claims.  A staff of Senior Examiners supports the Claims Examiners.  The Sr Examiners average over 25 years of experience.  In 2006, the claims dpartment will be processing claims in a paperless environment.  This change to department workflow should greatly aid customers on having their claims processed more efficiently.

Compliance and Product Development Department

Conducts research and provides input towards the development, revision and interpretation of underwriting policies, standards and practices. Participates in the development and enhancement of products with emphasis on growth and profitability.

Provides assistance to line operations in the interpretations of coverage, rules and acceptance standards in accordance with company policy or criteria established by rating bureaus, insurance departments or legislative activity. Assesses specific insurance coverage and underwriting problems. Participates in the development or refinement of risk standards. Communicates technical information on products and systems.

Develops and analyzes market information relative to market potential, products, loss expense, and profitability of market segments. Identifies opportunities to improve product performance and recommends action plans to staff management.

Participates in the development and refinement of new and/or enhanced products, the establishment of acceptance standards and pricing policy. Provides input to pricing for product changes. Actively participate in various states filing activities.

Accounting

We process all financial reporting, both quarterly and annually, to all the requiring entities (states, agencies, reinsurers). This includes tax filings and statutory required filings. We monitor and file reinsurance claims based on annual contract requirements.

All Payments for policies and agencies are reconciled by the Accounting department. We process through several 3rd party vendors, plus payments received in our office and on-line web payments. All these sources are split into two different systems and then combined again for reconciliation purposes. We are in a long term conversion to have all policies handled by one processing system.

Fixed Assets and our Investment Portfolio are processed and reconciled using software packages. We electronically process our Accounts Payable, Budget, Cost Analysis, and General Ledger with interactive software packages. All check printing for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Claims is performed in our department. We prepare both hourly and salaried payrolls for our employees. Unclaimed Property reporting is handled by the Accounting department as well. We go through an annual audit process by our corporate accounting firm; and a state audit every 3 to 5 years.
